Stage 8 — Junction city to Burlington

Saturday, September 13, 2014 — Junction city to Burlington

Stage eight was the longest stage with a distance of 311 miles, and as it turns out it was also the coldest, at least for the start. The morning temperature was 37 degrees, and it was foggy with low visibility. For the riders it was a stressful 40 miles before the fog cleared, and it made for cold and damp riding conditions. When they arrived in Burlington, Colorado around 4:30 pm, despite the warm and sunny afternoon, most riders were still chilled to the bone.

We did not hear from our riders all day. We weren’t sure if “no news was good news” or if perhaps bad phone reception was to blame. We waited anxiously at the check-in location at the Old Town Museum in Burlington. At least we had a little time to walk through the Old Town with its vintage buildings and props before they arrived. And arrive they did… all four Team Vino riders came in and were given full miles for the day’s ride. And our two adopted riders, Pat and Chris Simmons, also did well.
