Stage 11 — Grand Junction to Springville

Tuesday, September 16, 2014 — Grand Junction to Springville

Stage eleven was another long one — 289 miles taking the riders from Grand Junction, Colorado to Springfield, Utah. But it was also one of the more memorable and beautiful rides. The ride through the red canyons and along the Colorado river was spectacular. The stage ended at Legends Vintage Motorcycle Museum in Utah, and also provided a stop at Jeff Decker’s art studio. Jeff is famous for his bronze works. Both Jeff Decker and Legends owner, Rick Salisbury, are 2014 Cannonball riders.

The weather was warm and wonderful after the fog and gloom of Kansas. It made for a very inviting atmosphere.

Scott and Sharon, Dean and Robert all had successful rides. No points deductions. And our friends, Pat and Chris did the same. The evening wrenching was busy — tire change for Scott, carburetor adjustments, and additional work on Pat Simmons’ bike adjusting points and valves. And then they’re ready for the next day. Very little sleep and the traveling motorcycle circus, aka the Cannonball, continues.

We caught up with Dean Bordigioni from our team. We rarely came across our riders on the road as they took different routes than the crew. It was great to see him.

This is the front of the Legends building. Very impressive. It is owned by Rick Salisbury who is on the Cannonball. The bronze out front is a design by Jeff Decker.
